Faucet & Toilet Repair in Albuquerque, NM

Water in Albuquerque is hard on fixtures, literally. The city's supply, drawn from the Rio Grande through the San Juan-Chama project and from groundwater wells, carries plenty of dissolved minerals that leave white scale on faucets and showerheads and build up inside cartridges, aerators and toilet fill valves. Over time that scale makes faucets drip, sprayers sputter and toilets run or refill slowly. Older homes add their own problems: worn shutoff valves that won't turn, supply lines that have aged out and wax rings that fail after decades. And in a desert city where every gallon counts, a toilet that runs all night or a faucet that drips all day wastes a surprising amount of water.

We fix most faucet and toilet problems in one visit. That includes replacing cartridges, washers and O-rings, cleaning or swapping aerators, rebuilding toilets with new fill valves, flappers and flush valves, resetting loose toilets with new wax rings and replacing old supply lines and shutoff valves. When a fixture is beyond repair, we install new faucets, toilets and garbage disposals, with our licensed plumbers handling the connections. We test every repair for leaks, clean up the work area and haul away the old parts and fixtures.

What this covers

  • Dripping faucet repair and cartridge replacement
  • Running toilet repair and full tank rebuilds
  • New faucet and toilet installation
  • Toilet reset with new wax ring and bolts
  • Shutoff valve and supply line replacement
  • Garbage disposal repair and replacement
  • Hard-water scale cleanup on aerators and showerheads
  • Leak checks under sinks and around toilets
A note from around here: Older homes in Old Town, Barelas and the valleys often have original shutoff valves and supply lines that need replacing, while homes across the Heights and the Westside fight constant hard-water buildup in faucets, showerheads and toilet valves. In Rio Rancho and on the Westside, newer homes tend to have plastic supply lines and builder-grade faucets that wear out sooner than expected under the same mineral load.

How a faucet & toilet repair visit usually goes

Diagnose the Problem

We check the fixture, valves and supply lines to find the cause, whether it's worn parts, scale buildup or a loose connection.

Shut Off and Prepare

We turn off the water, protect the floor and cabinet and remove the worn parts or old fixture.

Repair or Replace

We install new cartridges, valves, seals or a new fixture, with our licensed plumbers making the connections.

Test and Clean Up

Water goes back on, every joint gets checked for drips, the fixture is run through its paces and the cabinet or floor is wiped clean.

Winter brings another issue for Albuquerque plumbing: freezing. Nights below freezing are common from December through February, and higher neighborhoods near the foothills and in the East Mountains see colder temperatures still. Outdoor hose bibs, exposed pipes in garages and the supply lines to swamp coolers are most at risk. A split pipe or a broken hose bib can leak for hours before anyone notices. In fall, we can install frost-free hose bibs, insulate exposed pipes, shut off and drain cooler lines and check that outdoor faucets are protected. It's much easier than fixing the damage after a freeze. If a pipe does freeze, shut off the water at the main and call us; our licensed plumbers can repair the break, and we can patch any drywall the leak damaged in the same visit.

What shapes the price in Albuquerque

Most faucet and toilet repairs are straightforward, and the cost depends on the parts and the access. Replacing a flapper or a fill valve is quick. Faucets with hard-to-find cartridges, corroded or stuck parts or tight access under a sink take longer. Replacing a toilet may involve repairing a damaged flange or subfloor. Old shutoff valves that won't close fully may need replacing before we can work. Doing several fixtures in one visit, such as a dripping kitchen faucet, a running toilet and a leaky shower valve, is the most efficient way to get everything fixed. We'll give you a clear price before we begin, and if a quick rebuild will do the job, we won't push a replacement you don't need.

Neighbors often ask

Why does my faucet drip even after I replace the washer?

In Albuquerque, it's often hard-water scale. Mineral buildup can damage the cartridge or the valve seat, so a new washer doesn't seal properly. We'll replace the cartridge or seat, clean out the scale and check the aerator. If the faucet is very old or parts aren't available, replacing it can make more sense, and we'll give you both options. Ceramic-disc cartridges hold up to our water much better than old rubber washers.

How do I know if my toilet is wasting water?

Listen for refilling when no one has flushed, or put a few drops of food coloring in the tank and see if it shows up in the bowl after twenty minutes without flushing. Either sign means water is leaking past the flapper or the fill valve isn't shutting off. We'll rebuild the tank with new parts so it stops wasting water.

Can you replace my old toilet with a water-saving one?

Yes. Newer toilets use far less water per flush than older models while still working well. We remove the old toilet, check the flange and floor, install the new toilet with a new wax ring and supply line and make sure it's level and leak-free. Our licensed plumbers handle the connections.

Can you fix my garbage disposal?

Often, yes. Many disposal problems are jams that can be cleared, or a tripped reset button. If the motor has failed or the unit is leaking from the body, we'll replace it with a new disposal, and our licensed plumbers and electricians handle the connections. We'll also check the drain connections and dishwasher hookup while we're there. A disposal that hums but won't spin is usually jammed rather than dead, and that's often a quick fix.

Should I get a water softener?

It can help with Albuquerque's hard water, especially if you're tired of scale on fixtures and spots on dishes. It's a personal choice with trade-offs, including salt use and maintenance. In the meantime, cleaning aerators and showerheads regularly and choosing faucets with ceramic cartridges goes a long way toward keeping scale from causing leaks.
