TV Mounting in Albuquerque, NM

Mounting a TV in Albuquerque means dealing with a wider range of walls than in most cities. A new home in Rio Rancho or on the Westside will have standard wood studs behind drywall, often with tall great-room walls and a framed chase above a gas fireplace. A 1950s ranch in the Heights may have plaster over lath or old drywall with studs in unexpected places. And in the valleys and older neighborhoods, you might want the TV on a thick adobe wall, a cinder block exterior wall finished with plaster, or a kiva fireplace with rounded edges. Each of those needs different anchors and a different plan for hiding cables, and choosing the wrong one is how TVs end up crooked, sagging or on the floor.

We begin by finding out exactly what's behind the surface, using a stud finder, small test holes and some experience with how houses here were built. Then we pick a mount rated for your TV and the wall, set it at a comfortable viewing height and level it carefully. Where it can be done safely, we route cables inside the wall using a proper in-wall power kit, or neatly along the surface in paintable raceway when the wall is solid masonry. We can also add a soundbar, a shelf for a streaming box or game console, and set everything up so it's ready to watch. We clean up the dust and take the packaging with us.

What this covers

  • Wall mounts for flat, tilting and full-motion TVs
  • Stud, block, adobe and plaster wall anchoring
  • Over-fireplace and tall great-room installs
  • In-wall cable and power kits where safe
  • Paintable raceways on masonry walls
  • Soundbar and media shelf mounting
  • Removal of old mounts and wall patching
  • Basic setup and cleanup when we're done
A note from around here: Westside and Rio Rancho homes built since the 1990s often have tall great-room walls and fireplaces that call for longer reach and careful planning, while adobe and block walls in the North Valley, Corrales and Old Town need masonry anchors and a different approach to cable routing.

How a TV mounting visit usually goes

Plan the Spot

We talk through where you'll sit, where the outlets and cable connections are and how the light comes in, then mark the height and position for you to approve.

Locate Framing and Choose Anchors

We find studs, blocking or solid masonry and choose a mount and anchors rated for your TV's weight and the wall material.

Mount, Level and Route Cables

The bracket goes up level and secure, cables are routed in the wall or in a neat raceway, and the TV is hung and checked for tilt and swing.

Set Up and Clean Up

We connect the soundbar and devices you want, test everything, patch any old mounting holes and leave the room clean.

Albuquerque's bright sun is a bigger factor in TV placement than people expect. Large west-facing windows, skylights and clerestory windows common in Pueblo-style homes can throw glare across a screen for half the afternoon. Before we mount, we'll look at where the light falls at different times of day and suggest a tilt or a swing arm that helps. Some people mount TVs outdoors on covered portales and patios, too. For those, we use weather-rated mounts and stainless hardware, keep the screen out of direct sun and blowing dust as much as possible, and plan the power and cable runs so they stay protected from the weather.

What shapes the price in Albuquerque

TV mounting cost depends on the size and weight of the TV, the kind of mount and the wall. A medium TV on a tilting mount on a standard stud wall is the simplest job. Full-motion arms, very large screens and over-fireplace installs take more time and hardware. Adobe, block and plaster walls need special anchors and careful drilling. Hiding cables inside the wall adds work, especially when we have to install a code-compliant power kit, and outside walls with insulation or fire blocking can make routing slower. Mounting several TVs in one visit, or adding a soundbar while we're there, is the most efficient way to go. We'll give you a firm price once we know the TV size, the wall and how you'd like the cables handled.

Neighbors often ask

Can you mount a TV on an adobe or block wall?

Yes. Solid adobe and concrete block are actually strong for mounting once the right anchors are used. Block takes sleeve or wedge anchors set into the solid parts of the block, and adobe needs long anchors or through-bolts set into sound material, sometimes with a backing plate to spread the load. Since running wires inside a solid wall isn't practical, we use a paintable raceway or plan the TV location near an existing outlet.

Should I put the TV over my fireplace?

It's popular, and it can work well, but there are some things to think about. Most fireplaces push the TV higher than ideal for viewing, and heat from a wood-burning or kiva fireplace can harm electronics. A pull-down mount can bring the screen to a comfortable height, and we'll check the temperature on the wall above the mantel. If it's too hot, we'll suggest a better spot.

How high should my TV be mounted?

For most living rooms, the center of the screen should be close to eye level when you're seated, usually around forty to forty-five inches off the floor. Bedrooms and rooms where people stand while watching can go higher. We'll mark the spot with tape so you can see it before we drill.

Can you mount a TV on my patio or portal?

Yes, if it's under a solid cover and protected from direct sun and rain. We use outdoor-rated mounts and stainless or coated hardware so wind-driven dust and monsoon moisture don't corrode them. An outdoor-rated TV is best; an indoor TV outside will usually fail early from heat and dust. Our licensed electricians can add a weather-protected outlet if you need one.

What happens to the holes from my old mount?

When we take down an old mount, we fill the holes, patch any torn drywall or plaster and match the texture. If you'd like, we can paint the patch with your leftover wall paint so the old spot disappears.
